European smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2022 declined by 16% year-on-year to a shade more than 40 million units, the technology analyst firm Counterpoint Research says, attributing this to economic challenges that placed constraints on consumer demand.

Smartphone sales in Europe grew by 6% in the first three months of 2021 following a difficult 2020, the technology analyst firm Counterpoint Research firm says, adding that despite this figures are still down due to ongoing COVID-19 challenges.

The European smartphone market had a rollercoaster of a year in 2020, experiencing a drop of 14% in sales year-on-year with April being the worst month with sales down by almost 50% on the corresponding month in 2019.
